Dr. Mei-Ling Chan Optometry
Those under 20 years of age remain unaffected by the change to how OHIP covers eye exams in Ontario. Twenty to sixty-four years old with certain conditions like diabetes, glaucoma, or clinically significant cataracts, remain covered for one full exam per 12 months cycle. This is not an exhaustive list. Please follow the link to the Ontario Association of Optometrists (https://optom.on.ca/historic-deal/) website and click on View the Press Release for an outline of all qualifying conditions. The same rule applies to those who are 65 years and older. Patients in this age group without potentially sight-threatening conditions are eligible for an OHIP-insured comprehensive eye exam once every 18 months. We, at Dr. Mei-Ling Chan Optometry, continue to recommend patients 65 years and older have yearly eye examination.
