Dr. Mei-Ling Chan is driven by her passion for providing her patients with the opportunity to improve their ocular health. Since starting her practice in 2012, she has offered the community high-quality, comprehensive eye exams, as well as provided eye care services for patients with diabetes, children, and seniors. Dr. Chan prides herself on her ability to manage and treat a wide scope of ocular health problems, including dry eyes, digital eye strain, glaucoma, and more!

Meet Your Optometrist

Dr. Mei-Ling Chan

Dr. Mei-Ling Chan was born and spent her early years on the tropical island of Penang, Malaysia. At the age of twelve, she made the trek to Canada. Dr. Chan attended the University of Waterloo, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1998 and Doctor of Optometry in 2002. She completed an externship in Atlanta before practicing in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, for two years.

She then moved to Barrie, Ontario, where she and her husband started a family. She now considers Barrie home.

She is a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists and Canadian Association of Optometrists. She has also served as a clinical assessor for the Canadian Assessment of Competence in Optometry, which tests the skills and aptitude of an optometrist prior to entering practice in Canada. Dr. Chan has also participated in various standard-setting workshops. These workshops contribute to the development and maintenance of the competence assessments.

Dr. Chan enjoys reading optometry journals and attending conferences (especially those held in tropical locales during our Canadian winters!) to keep abreast of the continually expanding scope of optometry.

Optometry is more than just checking prescriptions and dispensing glasses. With a barrage of retailers advertising glasses and contact lenses, we lose sight of what we are trying to achieve: healthy eyes that provide us with good, comfortable, clear vision all our lives. Early detection and intervention are crucial in many eye diseases to minimize damage.

JENNIFER

Jenn is a committed professional licensed optician who has mastered the art and science of making raving fans of her clients. She brings over 18 years of experience since graduating from Georgian College in 2006, providing high-level customer care. Her excellent communication skills win new clients over and maintain great relations with existing ones. She is involved in continuing education programs to ensure her skills are always up to date.

Jenn has lived in Barrie for 30 years and takes full advantage of this wonderful city with its great restaurants, amazing beaches and beautiful trails. She loves spending time with her daughters Olivia and Ava, and her husband Steve.

HILARY

Hilary is our office receptionist and has been working in the optometry field for the past 9 years. She also has over 15 years of customer service experience. Being the first ‘face’ you will see, her easy going manner will put you at ease. A true millennial, she is our office technology ‘gal’ (including our nespresso machine ‘fixer’), and completes auxiliary testing using the autorefractor, fundus camera and ocular coherence tomographer. Her goal is to make sure every patient feels welcome while they are in the office.

Hilary has lived in Barrie for 7 years with her husband Wes and son Malcolm. In her free time, she enjoys watching and playing sports, camping, hiking with her dog Nellie and spending time with her family and friends.
