Spectacular Vision, Without The Spectacles

Contact lenses provide wearers with a new-found reprieve from conventional vision correction with glasses. In addition to offering the same great benefits as glasses, novel contact lens designs allow them to be utilized in the correction of blurry vision caused by astigmatism, presbyopia, keratoconus, or to control nearsightedness in children and teenagers with progressive myopia.

Because of the numerous options available, contact lenses have become one of the most sought after alternatives to glasses in North America. And, as technology advances, you can probably expect that the number of wearers is simply going to grow.

However, everyone’s eyes are different, so the perfect pair for you, may not be the best for your neighbour. Experience a comprehensive eye exam with us, to see if contact lenses are right for you.

Book a Contact Lens Exam & Fitting

At your next appointment for an eye exam with Dr. Mei-Ling Chan Optometry, please express your interest in contact lenses. She will discuss the benefits and types of contact lenses with you, determine your contact lens prescription, and bring you back for a contact lens fitting appointment.

When you receive your new contact lenses, we offer a comprehensive training seminar to show you how to take care of your contact lenses. This includes cleaning, storing, inserting, and removing your lenses.

Dr. Chan will schedule a follow-up appointment to monitor how your eyes are adjusting to your new lenses. If you experience any form of discomfort or irritation while wearing your contact lenses, remove them immediately and contact our office.

When light enters your eyes, it passes through your cornea and then through the crystalline lens. Both result in spherical aberration (positive for your cornea and negative for your crystalline lens) that compensate each other, resulting in clear vision.

However, as we age, the properties of the crystalline lens begin to change, resulting in an increase in spherical aberration and glare.

To compensate, aspheric contact lenses negate spherical aberration, providing you with clearer vision.

Astigmatism occurs when the optics of your eye bend light differently along the horizontal and vertical axes, resulting in blurry and distorted vision. Toric contact lenses are designed to correct astigmatism, providing increased lens stability, and clarity. Depending on the brand of toric lens, they will vary in weight or thickness around the edges. This helps to prevent the lens from rotating when you blink.

Multifocal lenses are designed with different prescriptions in the lens to correct distance and near vision. These contact lenses are a good option for patients with presbyopia, a common side effect of aging that causes difficulty focusing on close objects. They also correct myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.

If you have ever heard of transition lenses for your glasses, then you probably have a good idea what Transition contact lenses can do for your eyes. Transition contact lenses adapt to different lighting situations, offering superior comfort for those with a sensitivity to light, and reducing glare.

Ask Dr. Chan if Transition contact lenses could benefit you.
