Did you know that May was Vision Health Month?! To bring awareness to the importance of making eye health a priority, the Barrie chapter of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) hosted their 5th annual Barrie Visions Gala – Dining in the Dark. Dr. Mei-Ling Chan Optometry joined local residents, businesses and community leaders in an ‘interesting’ evening of exploration and discovery in support of CNIB. There was live entertainment, door prizes, a silent auction, fabulous food, and a chance to experience a very unique dinner. Fears were overcome, friends were made, and laughs were had. As you can see, there was also a photo booth where we jumped at the chance to capture the fun times we had!
Don’t we look stylish!
The fundraiser is an exceptionally worthy cause. It supports the CNIB’s orientation and mobility and independent living skills program for youth in our local community. We strongly recommend putting yourself up to the Dining in the Dark challenge next year! To get involve or to learn more on how to support the CNIB, visit their webpage at www.cnib.ca.
Even though May has come and gone, there is no reason we cannot extend the Healthy Vision Month all year round. Encourage your friends, family members and others to make their eye health a priority. Get a dilated eye exam, live a healthy lifestyle, know your family history, use protective eyewear and wear sunglasses. Remember that your eyes are your window to the world so learn how you can protect them. Come and visit us at Dr. Mei-Ling Chan Optometry in Barrie.
