Can’t see? Vision getting worse? Advice from your Barrie eye doctor.

BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENT

Once you hit your 40s, you may notice that you need to hold nearby objects like books further and further away (or move them back and forth) to find a spot where you can see them clearly.  This is normal, but you really want to make sure there is nothing going on that is not normal.

There are many common and not-so-common reasons for your vision getting poorer, and while this post is not intended to be an all-encompassing text on all vision problems, these are the steps that you need to take to preserve your vision.

1) get tested.  Seek the services of an optometrist in Barrie, and you will get a proper evaluation of whether your problems are simple prescription problems or whether there are bigger issues at play.  Be thorough about reporting your medical history so that no contributing systemic health problems are missed, like diabetes.

2) get the right glasses.  Those drug store glasses are cheap, and you get what you pay for.  Your vision is important to you, and you need the proper eyewear with the proper prescription.  Of all of the things to skimp on, vision should probably be one of the last.  If it means needing more than one pair of glasses because of your job, then get them.

3) follow the advice.  Your eyes’ health and your vision are not only dependent on glasses, but on things like your diet and level of physical activity.  For instance, diets rich in anti-oxidants and an active lifestyle decrease the chance of developing Age-Related Macular Degeneration.  At our Barrie optometry office, we will give you all sorts of vision care advice that will help.
